Me talking about Christchurch

Okay, so that blog post I wrote about mental health in post-quake Christchurch got an amazing amount of attention with people sharing it willy nilly and generally agreeing that it was right on the money. This is immensely gratifying as a writer, because all I was really trying to do was get to the nugget of something that I felt was true for me and suspected was true for others, so it’s great to have that confirmation that yes, I was onto something. I’d rather I was dead wrong about it, but I’m glad I gave some people the opportunity to open up about their own struggles and maybe not feel so alone.

All this lead to some interest from the media and I was interviewed live on ABC Radio Australia by Cassie McCullagh. You can listen to the interview online. I’m moderately annoyed at the way the blurb for the interview says that “locals are struggling to cope with living with constant aftershocks”.

Er, no. We don’t have constant aftershocks. They’re a bit more frequent just at the moment but “occasional” would be more accurate (though obviously less interesting). Ah well…
