Recently I wrote a piece for The Spinoff arguing, in a not very serious tone of voice, that the bogans of beloved Outrageous Fortune were really just latterday incarnations of the legendary vikings, right down to their love of blow-off valves on longships (just kidding, they didn’t have blow-off valves, but they almost certainly had spoilers and gunshot decals).
But seriously, Vikings is a riveting, sometimes grotesquely so, programme that is now four seasons in and just keeps being great. Which is probably the best way it’s similar to Outrageous Fortune, in my opinion, but for more specific examples read From Scandinavia to West Auckland – Were the Vikings really the bogans of the sea?
It’s not ALL leather pants and great hair… but let’s be real… that’s a large part of the appeal 😉
